Milling & Mashing

Coming soon, details on the process of milling malt to expose the extractable material. After the grist mill the mash tun gets a batch of your freshly milled malt for its brewing-quality hot water. The mashing process converts starch into fermentable sugars. Enzymes do the work.

In the lauter tun sweet malt has been extracted from the grain mash using hot water. After this sparging the grains are removed and the brewer is ready to boil the wort.

Bear in mind that you can purchase malts ready for the wort and skip the milling, mashing, and lauter tun processes, but hey, at least you know where your bag or can of malts came from... or do you? What kind of grains were they made from?
