ALE TO THE CHIEF

by Bob Barnes

At last month’s International Microbrew Festival SNAFU had the opportunity to not only have a booth, but to serve homebrew as well. Man, does it make a big difference when instead of just talking about homebrew you can let someone taste homebrew. And many people did just that. Not only did we have a constant crowd around our booth, but we served 30 gallons of homebrew during the fest. We also signed up 3 new members. Welcome to our fine club Keith Perreault, William Wynne, and Chris Meyer. We’re now up to 70 SNAFU members. One of these new members has already jumped right in to help out our club. Keith Perreault has already designed a new web page for our club which is described on the front page of this newsletter. Check it out. You’ll definitely be impressed. Many thanks are in order to all who helped make our participation in the beer fest such a success. Mike Alber, our TAM card holding member served our beer pretty much nonstop all day. Steve Mac Millan and Reid Harrison set up and took down all our kegging paraphernalia that was used to serve our beers. Both these guys also donated a considerable amount of homebrew. Thanks to Ralph and Judy Goodman, Jay Lefkowitz, Mike Plinski, Joe Sutton, Joe Spangler, and Tom Kramer for providing still more large quantities of homebrew. And last, but not least, thanks to Robin Ginter for redesigning the ever popular beer spinning wheel (he improved it by making labels for the wheel with stick on letters for virtually every beer style there is) and also for helping proselytize all day long for the religion of homebrew. It was truly a team effort and we couldn’t have had such an impressive presence without everyone’s help.

At our last meeting we gave members an opportunity to voice any opinions to the revisions the officers had suggested for the rough draft of our Club Basics. No one offered any opinions either way so we’ll proceed to incorporate the changes I talked about in last month’s article. A possible final version will be available for you to peruse at our July meeting on July 10.

Thanks are in order for Joe Urcioli for letting 27 SNAFU members and their friends and family attend the Super Summer Theatre presentation of Damn Yankees for free last month. The musical was very well done and everyone had a good time. And we drank homebrew! Thanks again, Joe. I know the Great American Beer Festival is months away (It’s Oct. 1-3 in Denver) but I want to inform anyone interested that I have two extra hotel rooms reserved that I won’t be using. They’re at the Holiday Inn Downtown, about 4 blocks from Currigan Hall, which is where the fest is. I’ll keep them open till the end of September, in case anyone wants them. Looks like a fun summer in store for SNAFU with the pub crawl and campout coming up. Hope to see you at our next meeting on Friday, July 10.
